Perform final assembly and electrical tests
This task is easier with two people.
Procedure
- Attach the steering control:
- Route the long, straight end of the steering control arm from the bottom of the car through to the dashboard such that the short end fits into the steering linkage of the car.
- Route the 16” duplex wire from the modified steering wheel into the dashboard and use the screw and bolt provided with the car to attach the modified steering wheel to the steering control arm.
- Verify the steering wheel moves the front wheels through their full range of motion from left to right.
- Affix the MUSE logo to the hood of the car.
Verification
Prepare the car for testing
- Verify that the toggle switch is OFF.
- Connect the battery connector in the battery compartment to the car’s power cable.
Preliminary functional test
- Place a block under the car to lift the rear tires off the table so that they are not touching anything. IF THE REAR TIRES ARE IN CONTACT WITH ANYTHING, THE CAR COULD MOVE OFF THE WORK SPACE!
- Press the car’s power button to turn on the car.
- Set the toggle switch to ON and make sure the tires do not turn.
- Press the big, red button on the steering wheel.
- Verify the right rear tire is turning clockwise when the big, red button and stops turning when the button is released.
- If the right rear tire does not rotate as described, stop here and check your wiring!
- If the car works as it should:
- Press the button on the dashboard to turn off the car.
- Set the toggle switch to OFF.
Preparation for delivery
- Verify the car’s power switch on the dashboard is off.
- Verify the toggle switch is off.
- Remove the blocks holding up the rear of the car; however keep them handy for use in subsequent tasks.
- Place the seat over the battery compartment and fasten it to the car using the 1/4-turn screw in the back of the seat.
